Jakob Bro, Arve Henriksen and Jorge Rossy: a marvel of melancholy serenity
Jakob Bro is a fabulous melodist, who paints soundscapes like with watercolors. This is what I wrote about Returnings, the 2018 album recorded with the Danish guitarist’s quartet, accompanied by Danish trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg, Norwegian drummer Jon Christensen and American double bassist Thomas Morgan. And I could say it just as much for this Uma elmo, of great nostalgic lyricism.
Bro has played with Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Joey Baron, Tomasz Stanko, Paul Bley, Lee Konitz, Kurt Rosenwinkel, but it seems that it is in this trio that he gives the full measure of his great talent. architect of magnificent musical landscapes like wheat fields whose ears sway slowly under the effect of a light wind. His companions are the Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and the Spanish drummer Jorge Rossy, inimitable. This album is called Umo Elmo, the middle names of his two children.
