If you like jazz and a good cigar, there is no better place in the Cayman Islands to spend a Thursday or Saturday night than Cohiba Lounge on West Bay Road in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Cohiba Lounge has a wide range of Cuban cigars for all tastes and you can also take advantage of the owner’s immense knowledge of Cuban cigars if you are not sure what you are doing.
It’s a cozy little lounge bar frequented by locals and tourists. My favorite nights are Thursdays and Saturdays because there is a jazz band led by a local saxophonist, Gary Ebanks. The band plays from 8.30pm to 11.00pm on assigned nights. They make many versions and some of their own creations, you can also make a request and if you have a good voice or can play an instrument you can go on stage and be part of the band. The lounge does not have a kitchen, but the owner can order food from the many nearby restaurants, so you can enjoy your meal while watching the band play. Cohiba Lounge also has two wide screen televisions and these are very popular when broadcasting big games live.
What I really like about the place are the comfortable sofas that form “the lounge” inside the bar. Many of the expats working in the Cayman Islands regularly meet here and they all seem to be very welcoming, including tourists. This is an indication of how friendly the ever-present owner and the beautiful waitresses have made Cohiba Lounge. When it comes to affordability, Cohiba Lounge is slightly less expensive than many of the establishments on Seven Mile Beach Road.
