Reasons to Include Seafood in Your Regular Diet

Eating out is always exciting and fun, especially for your spouse or your children. It has become very important when you are away for the weekend, mid-weekend getaways or simply for dinner with your whole family to take care of what you eat. If you are on a family outing, there are many things you need to pay special attention to, such as accommodation, attractions, and food.

The food group you should go to during your outings is seafood. Unlike meat and poultry, seafood is very easy to digest.

Most nutritionists recommended that seafood should be an integral part of your regular meal. Various studies and research have shown that they are the best source of vitamins, minerals and fats and provides a very important constituent known as omega-3 or good fats.

Some of the reasons why one should include shellfish in their diet are mentioned below.
1. Fresh seafood is considered the human heart’s best friend. This may be due to the fact that this form of non-vegetarian food contains the least amount of fat. The fat in fish meat is rich in amazing Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 is very important to protect the heart against heart disease. These polyunsaturated fatty acids are also called “good fats” and are also responsible for lowering the cholesterol level in the human body. Relaxation of blood vessels and larger arteries also occurs due to these good fats. They also decrease inflammatory and damaging processes in blood vessels.

2. Shellfish during pregnancy: Several investigations and studies have shown that the omega-3 fatty acid present in different types of fish and shellfish is very important for the full development of the fetus. This plays a very important role in the neural and ocular development of the child during pregnancy.

3. For the skin and eyes: Most shellfish are rich in various vitamins and minerals. This ensures you have healthy, glowing skin. It also helps to have good eyesight.

4. Seafood oils also help lower the blood pressure level of people with hypertension. This oil is also capable of preventing osteoporosis as it helps our bones absorb calcium and prevent them from becoming weak and brittle.

5. Seafood also helps you lose weight as it contains fat-free oil. It also strengthens your immune system. This may be because it contains a very high amount of antioxidants with some very important vitamins like E, C, D and A. These antioxidants are responsible for stimulating the immune system of the human body.

Most people are concerned about the risk involved in consuming seafood due to pollution that can put their health at risk, but this can be minimized or avoided by selecting the right type of seafood. It is always best to eat fresh shellfish, if not possible then it should be stored properly in the freezer as shellfish, especially fish, tend to rot quite easily.
