What happened to the muscle cars, the classics and the Hotrods?

What happened to the good old muscle car? You know what happened to them, imports took over!

Years ago you could find what is now considered a classic on every corner. These days when you stop at a red light you see a Honda, Toyota, or some kind of American-made car that should say Honda or Toyota! People have changed, and for the most part it’s not good for us hotrodders. Young teenagers used to get excited to get their dads Camaro, Mustang, or Cuda out, nowadays they’re excited to get out the Civic 4-door. In case you youngsters didn’t know, a 4-door Honda Civic is not a fast muscle car, nor will it beat one in the ¼ mile. So what do you do to make your car “faster”? They put a 6 “exhaust nozzle and a fiberglass hood on it and they fly doing all the buzzing they can!

As if that wasn’t bad enough, automakers like GM are discontinuing cars like the Camaro and Firebird and coming out with cars like the Cobalt. Did you know that they sell the Cobalt with factory hop-ups so you don’t have to do the work of making it look and sound ridiculous? Just look at the Chevy Impala, does it even look like an Impala? The only cars GM has that are even remotely fast are the Corvette and GTO, which are too expensive, which is not that bad. I applaud Ford for continuing to make Mustangs and Dodge for bringing the Charger back, but is that all you’ve got? I will never understand the Americans who continue to buy these “imports” and spend time working on them, only to make them uglier than they already are and probably slower. I don’t mean to criticize anyone, but I did it wrong.
