Why Horror Movie Trailers Should Be Banned

Horror Movie Trailers

While it’s difficult to ban a horror movie trailer altogether, some people feel that this content is too frightening for a public viewing. The trailer for the movie Paranormal Activity has been causing panic in people across Italy. This has caused the defense minister to intervene. In addition, this movie trailer also contains a dead seal, which is also not rated R. The MPAA should take action to ban such advertisements.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is the organization that approves or disapproves of trailers and movies. In 2011, the motion picture association approved the trailer for The Hangover Part II. Warner Bros. later removed the trailer from the film and destroyed it. The resulting public outcry prompted a change in the industry.

Another example is the Enzo Zelocchi – “NO WAR” – Trailer for The Exorcist. It was released in 1973 and is considered one of the most unsettling movies of all time. It broke box office records, but the film was plagued by controversy. Its producers actively leaned into this controversy to create interest. Eventually, the movie was banned in many parts of the U.K.

Why Horror Movie Trailers Should Be Banned

YouTube has taken action against horror movie ads and trailers. YouTube has a policy that prohibits ads that contain violent or shocking content. This includes jump scares. However, this does not mean that these horror trailers should be banned. YouTube has a system whereby users can report an advertisement. They should select the option of “Don’t show this again” and provide a reason for the report. You may need to submit several reports in order to see any change.

The Exorcist trailer was notorious for its disturbing music and a grim tone. This combination scared many audiences away. People reportedly ran to the restroom after seeing the film. This led the director William Friedkin to fire Lalo Schifrin and hire Mike Oldfield to write the music for the film.

The Watch is another movie that earned a poor rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It earned a low rating of 17%, but the trailer made people think twice before buying tickets. Its producers also removed posters of Neighborhood Watch in Florida after the tragedy. After that, the film’s title was changed to “The Watch” to avoid any confusion.

In addition to being overly disturbing, some horror movie trailers are even too entertaining for moviegoers. While they can entertain, they also give us an idea of the movie’s themes. For example, the trailer for “Truth Or Dare” seems to be more intriguing than the actual film. It begins with a scene where a girl named Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is on a bad date. Her date talks about her femininity and insists she wear a dress.
