Why Japan doesn’t have a functioning digital intelligence service
Japan is widely regarded as one of the leading technology nations in the world. The Asian country is home to numerous technology groups and has always set new standards, for example in the field of robotics. And Japan is also one of the successful tech nations in the government sector: In the United Nations’ 2020 e-government survey, Japan is listed as a prime example and one of the best countries in Asia – alongside South Korea and Singapore. Under the surface, however, lies a Japanese problem that is barely visible: Japan, this outstanding IT nation, has an inadequately equipped digital secret service.
