Do you remember that after the last party you woke up with the feeling of cotton in your mouth? With it came a swirling headache that turned into jungle drums. On top of everything, his stomach kept playing stunts for hours. It felt like your body was at a carnival without you, right?
That’s the effect a hangover can have if you drink too much, mix spirits, or aren’t used to drinking a lot. Alcohol intoxication is not fun, although the events that lead to it can be. Before heading out with your friends to the next party or celebration, keep the following tips in mind so you don’t have to deal with the feeling of discomfort left over late at night or the next day.
1. Eat before you go. Bite into a few crackers, a sandwich, or even a salad to get something on your stomach before drinking alcoholic beverages. Drinking on an empty stomach is a surefire way to quickly get drunk and contaminate your bodily systems. While you’re at your drinking spot, remember to snack on something to eat every now and then to prevent your stomach from emptying. This will help your digestive tract to process alcohol more efficiently.
2. Take it easy. Don’t drink your liquor. Drink, nice and slow. This will help you enjoy its effects instead of rushing into drunkenness. Enjoy all the party joys like music, company, food, and more. The liquor should accentuate the party experience rather than dominate it. Keep an eye on the clock and control the pace of your drink so you don’t lose track of how much you have.
3. Stop on time. Don’t drink all night. Know your limit and stop when you reach it. Don’t let anyone convince you to drink more than you should. Never get carried away by competition with other drinkers, or you could end up in serious trouble if you drink too much and too much.
4. Don’t mix spirits. Starting with beer and moving on to cocktails, and from there to whiskey, is a bad idea. With different levels of alcohol and uneven textures, your stomach could really get upset. Stick with one or maybe two types at most, the lower the force the better. You can always try another type the next time you go out.
5. Stay away from contraband. You never really know what you get in terms of strength, quality, or power. If you are with people you don’t know very well and you pass out, you could face serious problems. However, even among friends, smuggling can vary from batch to batch, so it’s best to stay away from it entirely.
Plan to sleep at least eight hours after the celebration. This will give your body time to metabolize the liquor and you may be able to sleep for most of its effects. Drink slowly, eat sensibly while you do so, and go home in plenty of time to get some rest.
