Today, it is common to see players who can play in multiple positions on the court. As everyone knows, only five players are allowed on each team’s court. Each position on the court can be seen more as a role than as a position. As previously stated, the game of basketball has developed over the years, where you can see players develop a more hybrid role and play in more than one position.
Guard point:
This person tends to be in the leadership role on the court, lifting the ball each time and executing the plays. The point guard must be the best ball handler, dribbler, and passer of most of the players on the team. The point guard is responsible for getting the ball onto the court at the start of plays. The point guard also tends to be the smallest and fastest player on the team and uses his knowledge of the game to coordinate the offense. Not necessarily known for his shooting because that’s not his main role on the court. However, it is common to see point guards take as many shots as other players on the court.
Shooting guard:
This player is also one of the smallest players on the team. The shooting guard has to acquire skills like fast dribbling, passing and having a good view of the court as well as the point guard would. The shooting guard also has similar skills to the point guard, such as getting the ball onto the court and preparing offensive plays. The shooting guard tends to be the player who takes the most shots on the court. The escort also tends to be a three-point specialist and an accurate marksman. In terms of height, bodyguards tend to be taller than point guards and are more accurate shooters than point guards.
Little Forward:
The interesting thing about small forwards is that they generally have the skills and abilities to play inside and outside. Skills such as ball handling, passing, court awareness, post moves, and occasional shooting.
Power forward:
The power forward of a basketball team is usually the second tallest player on the team, who is close to the center in attributes and style of play, but is faster in speed. A power forward has the role of playing under the rim or on a wing or in the corner areas of the court. Most power forwards in the game today tend to have a more developed shot and it is more common to see power forwards hit 3s.
Center:
On the offensive end of the court, the center is responsible for opening up in the paint for an easy bucket by using techniques like jump shots, hook shots and being precise in using the backboard to make a basket. On the defensive side of the court, the center is responsible for blocking the paint on defense by blocking shots and passes and getting rebounds.
