If you are not sure if you are prepared to be a lawyer or if you have the right qualifications and attributes, then perhaps you would never think of becoming a lawyer. However, don’t rule it out just yet; it could be the profession for you.
This is why.
1. Being a lawyer and being involved in the legal profession is a good career choice, and while it may be quite traditional, you are embracing new technologies and work practices in the same way as other industries.
2. Society will always need lawyers. Perhaps you have never dealt with a lawyer before and only associate it with criminal law. Attorneys are needed when buying or selling property, in education, and to help with labor disputes.
3. If you are good at your job, then you are sure to have the opportunity to further your career and establish yourself more, and you could even become a partner in a law firm one day.
4. You will be given the opportunity to try out different areas of law. Who knows, you could be an expert in personal injury, financial law, or will and probate cases.
5. At first, you may not be familiar with all the different areas of law. Perhaps you would like to learn more about construction law, environmental law, or corporate recovery before choosing an area to focus on.
6. You may choose to specialize in one area of law and become very good at it, and even become a recognized expert.
7. Perhaps your inquisitive and logical mind is ideal in criminal law. You may find yourself regularly defending innocent people or, as a prosecutor, trying to prove that the defendant is guilty.
8. As a lawyer, you will see many varied and sometimes interesting cases. Perhaps you are involved in a grand murder trial, or a corporate fraud, or a negligence trial, or the buying or selling of property for the rich and famous.
9. As society and technology change, lawyers are always learning and must always be aware of changes in the law. Who would have thought that the legal implications of intellectual property, international communications or the Internet would play such an important role in everyday life?
10. As a lawyer, you will have great prospects and work as part of a team with other dedicated, focused, and hard-working people, and you can expect to be well paid and the roles to be highly rewarding. You will meet a lot of people and no two days will be the same. What could be better?
Now that you know more about the different areas or laws, and what to expect, why not become a Lawyer Trainee?
