Today I’m going to be looking at the DeLonghi DO400 1400 Watt Digital Control 4-Slice Toaster Oven. It’s just one of many quality kitchen appliances from DeLonghi.
Here are the product specifications of the D0400:

The first thing you’ll think is that the DO400 looks a lot more expensive than it really is. It is a digital toaster oven, with a backlit LCD display and digital buttons. The display is very nice and easy to read and shows the time when the oven is not in use. The main benefit of digital controls is that you have precise control over the temperature and timer, which means you get your food exactly how you want it.
The browning function has six different preset levels, but in my tests, it’s best to go for the first and lowest, which gave me a nicely toasted bread. Initially I tried the third setting and it burned my toast, and the second made it a bit over the top, but the first was fine. I can’t imagine you’d ever need to use the highest setting, but I’m guessing if you’re toasting an oven full of bread, slightly higher settings will come into play.
The DeLonghi DO400 bake works well as expected. Again the digital controls make it so much easier to use as knob based toaster ovens can take a bit of guesswork as the settings are not always accurate but with this toaster oven you can set it exactly how you want it to be. want. Last night I made chicken fillets for the kids and they turned out great. I also made a nice tuna casserole with it last week, and it turned out really well, too. I haven’t tested much more of the bake feature, but I don’t have any complaints about it at this point.
One small quibble I have with the DeLonghi D0400 toaster oven is that…it’s noisy. The beep, that is. DeLonghi decided to give this model an extra loud beep when you press the buttons on the front or when the food is ready. It’s not terribly loud, but it definitely gets your attention. I guess they did it this way so you could hear it from another room, but be warned: it’s loud.
Final verdict on the DeLonghi D0400?
This toaster oven is a great buy for the money. Toaster ovens with digital controls and displays are typically twice what this model costs, and it’s definitely worth it. The only drawback, as I mentioned above, is the beeping sound, but it’s not a deal breaker at all. I recommend this model without a doubt. All in all, you can’t go wrong with this model.
