If you’ve been selling resale eBooks on eBay for a while, then chances are you’re adopting a similar approach to many eBook sellers. You get cheap or free eBooks with resell rights and then resell them on your eBay store. Now there is nothing wrong with this method. It means that getting the eBooks is cheap or even free, you don’t have to spend time building a product, and many times you even get a sales page and download page out of the box. With almost no money, you have a digital product that can be sold over and over again, with very little effort. I used to rely solely on this method when reselling eBooks on eBay, and have had reasonable success with it. I even wrote a newsletter article last year about getting free eBooks that you can resell on eBay. To this day I continue to resell other people’s eBooks in my eBay store. The difference though is that I now also create and sell my own resalable eBooks.
Now you may be thinking; ‘Why would you want to spend all the time and effort creating your own resalable eBooks, the value of which is likely to depreciate very quickly? It is surely much faster and more profitable to resell eBooks that are already available with resell rights. If these are your thoughts, then you are thinking about resalable eBooks the wrong way. Let me put it in perspective and hopefully change the way you think on the subject with the following example.
In this example, let’s say you’re selling your own and someone else’s eBook, both for £1.99 in your eBay store. Now when you sell someone else’s ebook you make £1.99 which is pretty cool. However, when you sell your own resalable eBook, you earn £1.99 from the sale AND after the sale you have the potential for so much more. What potential you may be wondering? Well let me explain below what your own resellable eBook can do for you.
1) Promote – Your own eBook can be a very valuable promotional tool for your eBay store, your website, or anything else you want to promote. If you want to promote your eBay store, just write a little note like “presented by http://stores.ebay.co.uk/YOUREBAYSTORE”. Or you could even write a short paragraph about your eBay store, what you sell, etc., and then provide a link if people want more information. If you have your own website, write an ebook that contains similar content, and of course provide a link to your website somewhere within the ebook.
As you continue to sell your eBook with resell rights, some of your customers will start selling it too and eventually your customers will sell it too. As time goes by, your ebook will continue to be distributed, creating an ever increasing amount of traffic – your very own viral traffic tool. The more your eBook is distributed, the higher the potential for traffic to your eBay store/website.
2) Sell your premium product – If you have a premium eBook, you can use resalable eBooks to sell it. For example, if you have a cooking recipe eBook that you have written that contains 1000 recipes, this could be your premium eBook. You could then use 10 or 20 of these recipes to create a resalable eBook. At the end of this resalable eBook, you can leave a note like “Want to get 1000 recipes like this? Click here.” Clicking here will link to your premium eBook. If people like the recipes in your premium ebook, they are likely to go ahead and buy the full 1000 recipe premium ebook.
As before, the same principles apply, and as time goes on, your resalable eBook is seen by an increasing number of readers and should generate an increasing amount of sales. Obviously, the recipe ebook above is just an example. The above principles can be applied to almost any product/genre, allowing you to use your resalable eBook to promote and sell a premium product.
3) Selling an Affiliate Product – If you don’t have your own premium product, the same principles above can be used to sell a product as an affiliate. An affiliate (if you don’t know that) is someone who sells a product for a commission on the sale. The only thing I would recommend if you are selling products as an affiliate is to make sure you have tested the product before promoting it. Not only will it allow you to better promote the product (since you will know what you are talking about) but it will also allow you to avoid low-quality products.
If you’re looking for a premium eBook to promote as an affiliate, ClickBank is a good place to start. It has ebooks on just about every subject you can think of and the commissions are as generous as 75% in some cases. All you have to do is sign up and then generate affiliate links (via ClickBank) to promote each product. If buyers click and buy through your link, you’ll earn a commission on the sale.
If you are looking for physical products to promote, I would recommend Commission Junction. Again, they have a very wide range of products and the commissions vary from product to product. Just like with ClickBank, you can generate affiliate links through the Commission Junction website, and if a customer buys through your affiliate link, you earn a commission on the sale.
4) Generate Leads:- If you don’t have your own mailing list yet and are serious about doing business online, then I have a simple suggestion. GET A MAILING LIST. It is quite possibly the most valuable asset you can own in the Internet Business. To explain the basics of list building, you first need to sign up for an autoresponder program (I use and recommend Aweber), build your list (using a variety of methods), and also maintain it (providing value to your subscribers). Keep in mind that this is a very, very basic discussion of list building and I would recommend that you do some research on the subject before you get your own list. I’ll cover listing building in one of my future “eBay eBook Success” articles, but if you can’t wait until then, I’d recommend Jim Cockrum’s How To Turn Auction Traffic Into Cash. This is the ebook I used to research and build my mailing list with the help of eBay traffic. Anyway, I’m getting off topic here.
Once you have a mailing list, a resellable eBook can be a valuable source of leads. All you have to do is place a link within the ebook for customers to sign up for your mailing list. Just like before, as the distribution of your eBook increases, the number of leads you generate should also increase.
I hope this article has shown you the potential that creating your own resalable eBook has to offer. While someone else’s resellable eBook can generate sales revenue, your own resellable eBook can generate additional sales of your premium products, additional traffic, affiliate commissions, and valuable leads. I’m not suggesting you stop selling other people’s resalable eBooks. In fact, other people’s resalable eBooks probably still make up the majority of my eBay store inventory. However, even one or two of your own resalable eBooks can make a world of difference.
