Every time people gather to celebrate the imminent arrival of a new life, the atmosphere is one of joy. The guests are already in the mood to have fun, why not give them what they want? Games are fun for everyone and a great way to break the ice. They can just go around the room and give advice or something that gets their guests more involved. The following are some ideas to get you started.
Word Scramble: Choose ten to fifteen baby-themed words and scramble the letters. Make enough copies so that each guest has one. Set a timer for five minutes. Reward the guest who solves their scramble first with a small gift.
Mother’s Name: Another play on words, this one uses the mother’s first, middle, and last name. Again make copies with the name at the top of the paper. The goal is to find as many words related to babies as possible. Set a timer for ten to fifteen minutes. The one with the most words wins.
Hang the Laundry – For this game, you will need to hang a clothesline. Have a laundry basket with baby clothes, a baby-sized doll, and a cell phone. Your guest will hold the baby, have the phone to his ear, and hold the baby’s clothes on the string. All this must be done without dropping the baby or the cell phone! Definitely a laugh-inducing game!
Measure mommy: Pass a skein of wool and scissors. Each guest must cut a piece of yarn the size they think will fit the expectant mother’s waist. Then each guest will have the opportunity to try on the thread around the mother’s waist to see how she measures up. The closest match wins a prize.
Baby’s First Bank: When sending out invitations, ask guests to bring some change. Buy a bench for children. Pass the bench across the room. As each person deposits their change in the bank, they will offer a parenting tip. This is a wonderful icebreaker and baby will have her first bank with some starting cash!
These are just a few ideas to get your creativity flowing. Showers are all about coming together to celebrate. Having the games ready can be the icing on the cake. Be sure to buy small gifts for prizes!
