More than 50 dead in attack on military camps in Mali
At least 53 people were killed in an attack on a military camp in Mali, West Africa. The attack came on Monday in Tessit in the Gao region in the east of the country, the military said on Wednesday. 33 soldiers and 20 attackers were killed. In addition, 14 soldiers were injured. The military spoke of a “terrorist attack” but did not provide any information about who was behind the attack.
Several terrorist groups have been active in Mali and the surrounding countries for years; some have sworn allegiance to Al Qaeda or the Islamic State. UN and EU missions are active in the state, in which the Austrian Armed Forces also participate.
