Visiting any city can be difficult, especially for the youngest members of the family. If you have children, they soon tire of museums, buildings, traffic, congestion, etc. The key to any visit to the city is to find a place where the kids can hang out, stretch their legs and BE KIDS!
My family moved to the Raleigh area of North Carolina in 2004, but before we moved, we checked everything/anything about the area. With two preschoolers in tow, we discovered several parks in the area. Pullen Park in Raleigh stood out for us.
The best features of the park are the rides. For just one dollar per child per ride they can ride the carousel [built in the late 1800s and still running!], travel by train or travel in a small boat. Also, there are paddle boat rentals available for around $5. for an hour. A great thing to do with all members of the family.
Parking is free and there is a picnic area. You bring your own food or go to the snack stand and make a purchase. There are also outdoor music events from time to time and your group can also rent a part of the park. Most of the park is well shaded so if you go during the summer you won’t pass out from the heat.
The park is located on Western Blvd. near North Carolina State University. If you tire of the park, you can always attend a Wolfpack sporting event. Either way, Pullen Park is a destination worth visiting on your visit to Raleigh, NC.
