Our bodies may be new on Earth, but our souls are very old. Researchers believe that we are born with certain fundamental traits and emotions that alter on the surface throughout our lives. It is on this belief in the existence of a past life that regression therapy finds its foundation.
Regression therapy practitioners believe that many of our problems are rooted in unresolved issues from our childhood or sometimes from our past lives. Therapists induce a trance state and take the patient back a few years to discover the problem from where it started and resolve it there. The term regression literally means going back to childhood or past life with the help of hypnosis.
But you have to wonder how people can remember incidents from long ago, especially in the case of their past lives. Our minds are divided into three parts:
• The conscious mind: keeps track of what we do in the present moment.
• The subconscious mind: represents who we are and stores important events that shape our personality.
• The superconscious mind-represents our spirit, soul or connection to divine power.
There may have been events in our childhood that would have had a major impact on our minds as children, but if those events were traumatic, our mind chooses to bury them under various other memories so they don’t hinder our daily functioning. .
However, the emotions we feel at that moment slowly begin to shape us. However, the effect of the event continues to influence our daily lives without our conscious knowledge.
Therapists, through hypnosis, help us enter a trance state where we can travel into our subconscious and go back to our childhood to experience that event again, but learn a new lesson that can fill our lives with positivity.
Practitioners believe that in many cases, the problems that need regression therapy have their own trance state in the person and the problem just needs to be resolved and the person awakened and brought into the conscious mind.
Regression therapists should not be misconstrued as fantasy makers, where they get into your mind and change things to suit your personality. Instead, they should be understood as detectives collecting clues as you go back to your childhood, or sometimes your past life, and putting those clues together to understand the root of your problem and solve it.
In addition to hypnosis or hypnotherapy, regression therapists use gestalt techniques, bioenergetic interventions, rational-emotional therapy, etc.
Gestalt techniques consider the individual role that each person plays in the patient’s life and vice versa. While rational-emotional therapy tries to get the patient to rationally and emotionally reflect on all the past incidents before coming to a conclusion.
Regression therapy works for patients who have depression, guilt, or shame for no particular reason, or who have persistently dealt with emotional problems. It can also work for people who have multiple personality disorders or hallucinations.
Regression therapy is believed to work when other therapies fail. It gives people clarity about themselves and helps them understand why they are the way they are. They become more accepting of themselves and comfortable with themselves, which gives them a newfound confidence.
