Syria reports Israeli rocket fire near Damascus
According to state media, the Syrian air defense intercepted several Israeli missiles. The rockets were fired from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Tuesday evening at targets in the Damascus area, said a Syrian military representative, according to a report by the Syrian state news agency Sana. The Syrian air defense has rendered most of the missiles harmless. There were no injuries.
Journalists from the AFP news agency reported explosions over the Syrian capital. According to state media, these were shots by the Syrian air defense. According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the attack targeted two ammunition dumps owned by Iranian fighters in Syria.
Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict ten years ago, Israel has repeatedly shot at targets in Syria. Again and again, the attacks also targeted positions by Iranian fighters. Iran is an important ally of the Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad.
