The Belgian has every intention of traveling in 2021, but in a different way: rush on vacation homes
After a year 2020 marked by the coronavirus and a heavily impacted tourism sector, how does the Belgian intend to travel in 2021? This is the question asked by the public relations agency Sound of C to its clients active in the tourism sector.
The first lesson we can learn from this is that we will not experience a return to normal this year. The trips will indeed be like those of 2020, even though we were all due to be vaccinated before the summer.
But the Belgian still wants to travel, carried by the renewed hopes with vaccination. Tour operator Corendon, among others, has seen an increase in demand for stays since the hopeful announcement about rapid tests and vaccines.
Interhome, specialist in the rental of holiday homes, had also already registered at the end of 2020 more bookings for the summer of 2021 than it had received in November 2019 for the summer of 2020.
As for destinations, it is above all the European countries that are doing well. Given that the coronavirus is still very present, the closer destinations are a guarantee of safety. The neighboring countries, but also the sun of Western and Southern Europe are the most popular.
The more daring, eager to travel far and not fearing forty, remain in the minority.
No risk …
Proof that fears remain numerous for next summer, large hotels, all-in resorts and plane departures are being abandoned in favor of car vacations and house rentals. What to keep his freedom and return if the health situation deteriorates, but also to limit contact with other people.
The popularity of nature activities will continue. In 2020, Belgians have learned to discover nature differently and they will continue to do so during their summer holidays. We prefer to avoid the hustle and bustle of classic city trips. Destinations such as Germany and Croatia will thus be fully relying on an active holiday in nature.
Finally, the Belgian wants to be reassured above all. The security offered by a destination and an organization is a priority. And both in terms of health and the financial aspect. Thus, Corendon will no longer issue a voucher if a holiday is canceled from April 1, 2021: the customer will be reimbursed within two weeks. Sunny Cars also offers a contactless vehicle handover system.
