bait and switch
Good old Bait and Switch is always there to help scammers fool car buyers. The scam works very easily; the dealer advertises a specific vehicle at a price every buyer dreams of. Then, once the buyer is at the dealership, they are informed that the advertised vehicle has already been sold.
The dealer will then push another vehicle with a higher price. In most cases, it works and the potential buyer agrees to buy another car at a higher price. As you may have guessed by now, the cheapest vehicle doesn’t even exist. Dealers use the illusion of this to fool unsuspecting car buyers.
The idea of the Bait and Switch scam is to lure the buyer into the dealership.
To avoid this scam, you should call the dealership 15 minutes before visiting. Give them a call and see if they still have the car or not. You can even record the conversation to have proof of their confirmation in case you need to file a claim against them.
contract errors
Contractual errors are rarely made inadvertently. That is the reason why they are so common in vehicle purchase agreements. Sellers can play the numbers by adding a few numbers to the purchase price or down payment.
One important thing here to help you avoid contract mistakes is to READ the contract. You don’t want to be scammed, do you? So why not give yourself 10-15 minutes to read what is written? Also, make sure you don’t skim through the contract quickly; read it thoroughly and carefully instead. Also, be sure to ask for copies of what you sign.
Securities laundering
It is not surprising that vehicles can be flooded or seriously damaged. As a result, they get a “salvage title,” which means they can be dangerous to drive.
If a dealer sells you a Salvage title without telling you about your past life, you are most likely in a trap. This is title wash and the only thing you can do to avoid it is to use Autocheck or CarFax to see what past life the car has. In other words, never buy a car without doing your own research. Don’t trust what the dealer tells you, trust more the information you collected independently.
